AN EDUCATION #4, Ettore Favini and Hektor Mamet, Nella terra di mezzo

Nella terra di mezzo, the video by the artists Ettore Favini and Hektor Mamet, will be presented to the public for the first time on September 21st in the Salone Impero of Villa e Collezione Panza, Varese. Subsequently and until October 24, the video will be shown in the project room located on the first floor of the Villa.

Nella terra di mezzo is the fourth appointment of AN EDUCATION, the series of exhibitions of artists’ videos and workshops promoted by FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano, which aims to offer schools in the surrounding area, and anyone interested in an educational/aesthetic action, a learning experience based on the interrelation between artists and students.

The video, produced in 2013, documents the final phase of ‘A Certain Idea of ​​Border’, the workshop curated by ALAgroup and conducted by Ettore Favini and Hektor Mamet who, for eight months, engaged two groups of students from two high schools from the cities of Cremona and Lugano in a shared reflection on the idea of ​ border, inviting them to undertake a shared journey that explored the concept of border and otherness in all its aspects – geographical, political, historical, cultural and existential – starting from the narrative of their own experiences.  http://www.alagroup.org/news/301

On the morning of the opening Ettore Favini and Hektor Mamet, assisted by some of the participants to ‘A Certain Idea of ​​Border’, will conduct a workshop with a group of students from a high school in Varese. In the afternoon, after the presentation of the video scheduled at 5pm, there will be a public meeting with the artists, the director of Villa Panza Anna Bernardini, the curator Maria Rosa Sossai and the film critic Andrea Bellavita.

AN EDUCATION is curated by ALAgroup, the platform for education and contemporary art founded in 2012 by Maria Rosa Sossai. The cycle of exhibitions and workshops stems primarily from the didactic-educational need to attract young people to the museum and stimulate their interest in contemporary art, interpreting their needs through a medium they are more familiar with, such as that of the video. AN EDUCATION is organized with the support and assistance of the Province and the Municipality of Varese.

Ettore Favini (Cremona, 1974) lives and works in Cremona. Hektor Mamet (Zurich, 1983) lives and works in Paris, London and Ticino, Switzerland. In 2006 he obtained a BA in Fine Art at City and Guild Art School, London, followed by an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design, also in London. From 2008 to 2010 he participated in the research programme ‘La Seine’ at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris under the guidance of Tony Brown. In 2009, thanks to Prohelvetia, he was artist in residence at IS Wyspa in Gdansk, Poland, where he produced the site specific installation Canteen. During the academic year 2010/2011 he was an artistic member at the Swiss Institute in Rome, and in 2012 artist in residence at Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella. Inaugurazione sabato 21 settembre 2013, ore 17 – FAI – Villa e Collezione Panza, Varese

Nella terra di mezzo, il video degli artisti Ettore Favini e Hektor Mamet, verrà presentato al pubblico per la prima volta il prossimo 21 settembre nel Salone Impero di Villa e Collezione Panza, Varese. Nei giorni successivi, e fino al 24 ottobre, l’opera rimarrà in esposizione nella project room della Villa.

Nella terra di mezzo è il quarto appuntamento di UN’EDUCAZIONE, il ciclo di mostre e laboratori promosso dal FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano che intende offrire alle scuole del territorio circostante, e a chiunque sia interessato a un’azione educativo/estetica, un’esperienza di formazione basata sul confronto tra artisti e studenti.

Il video, del 2013, documenta la fase conclusiva di Una certa idea di confine, il laboratorio curato da ALAgroup e condotto da Ettore Favini e Hektor Mamet i quali, per otto mesi, hanno coinvolto due classi di due istituti superiori delle città di Cremona e di Lugano in una riflessione corale sull’idea di confine, invitando gli studenti a intraprendere un percorso collettivo che esplorasse il concetto di confine e alterità nei suoi molteplici aspetti – geografico, politico, storico, culturale ed esistenziale – a partire dalla narrazione delle proprie esperienze. http://www.alagroup.org/news/301

La mattina dell’inaugurazione Ettore Favini e Hektor Mamet, coadiuvati da alcuni dei partecipanti a Una certa idea di confine, condurranno un laboratorio con un gruppo di studenti di un istituto superiore di Varese. Nel pomeriggio, dopo la visione del video prevista per le 17, si terrà un incontro pubblico con gli artisti, la Direttrice di Villa e Collezione Panza Anna Bernardini, la curatrice Maria Rosa Sossai e il critico cinematografico Andrea Bellavita.

UN’EDUCAZIONE è un progetto di didattica e video d’artista a cura di ALAgroup, la piattaforma di educazione e arte contemporanea fondata nel 2012 da Maria Rosa Sossai. Il ciclo di mostre e laboratori nasce principalmente dalla necessità didattico-educativa di avvicinare i giovani al museo e all’arte contemporanea, interpretando le loro esigenze con un linguaggio a loro più diretto come quello del video. UN’EDUCAZIONE è organizzato con il Patrocinio della Provincia e del Comune di Varese.

Ettore Favini (Cremona 1974) vive e lavora a Cremona. Formatosi all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, ha esposto in numerosi spazi pubblici e privati in Italia e all’estero. Hektor Mamet (Zurigo 1983) attualmente vive e lavora tra il Ticino, Parigi e Londra. Nel 2006 ha conseguito il Bachelor in Belle Arti presso il City and Guilds of London Art School, Londra, e nel 2007 il Master in Belle Arti presso il Chelsea College of Art and Design, Londra. Dal 2008 al 2010 ha partecipato al programma di ricerca La Seine presso l’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts di Parigi sotto la guida di Tony Brown. Nel 2009 è stato artist in residence con Prohelvetia presso IS Wyspa a Danzica, Polonia, dove ha realizzato una installazione in situ, Canteen. Durante l’anno accademico 2010/11 è stato membro artistico presso l’Istituto Svizzero di Roma e nel 2012 artista residente presso la Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte a Biella.
